Cristalizando Tradiciones

Mucha gente pensará que perder a alguien que quieres puede significar dolor y tristeza... para muchas culturas la muerte representa miedo, la perciben como el final de una vida....

Para mi la muerte también es el final de un capítulo, pero también el comienzo de otro; nuestras tradiciones siempre me enseñaron a no tenerle miedo, sino todo lo contrario, a la muerte hay que tenerle el mismo cariño que a la vida. Cada una de ellas representan ciclos y el balance entre mundos diferentes (como lo es el día y la noche, el blanco y el negro ó el yin y el yang).

Stranger in Paradise

I don't know if I told you before that part of my roots come from a little part of the jungle in Mexico. The place is called Xilitla and it is the heart of Las Pozas at San Luis Potosí. I never been there, but my family always tell me stories about that magical place. Now that I'm older and I'm into photography and fashion, I realise that this place still has some enigmatic atmosphere, and that's why so many artist love to go there and make videos or photo shoots. The place has fantastic constructions built by the english poet and sculptor Edward James. He was kind of eccentric and he also was part of the Surrealism movement, so he could create some of the most fantastic sculpture in the world. 

Hoping to embrace that liberated realm of the imagination and unconscious so familiar to James, the photographer Tim Walker and the actrees Tilda Swinton created a series of phantasmagorias inspired by other surreal artist such as Salvador Dalí, Remedios Varo and Leonora Carrington.

Other example that I found is this video from Nicole Scherzinger where you can see the beauty of Xilitla and how crazy the sculptures look like in the middle of the jungle... This is where my family comes from and it's kind of special to see that people from all over the world love that place as much as I do.

The appeal of Frida

Amo la moda, especialmente cuando esta inspirada en mis raíces mexicanas. Inmediatamente me enamore de la última edicion de DV Mode porque el fotógrafo Fredrik Wannerstedt pudo capturar la esencia mexicana inspirada por la artista Frida Kahlo. Las fotografías son super coloridas y cuentan la historia de vestidos suntuosos en hermosos encajes.

I love fashion, specially when it's inspired in mexican roots. I immediately felt in love with this latest edition of DV Mode because Fredrik Wannerstedt could capture the mexican essence inspired by artist Frida Kahlo. The photographs are so colourful and tells a story of sumptuous gowns and dresses in beautiful lace.

Alebrijes

Recuerdas que de pequeño decías que nunca soñabas nada, y lo mucho que te gustaría recordar aunque fuera un pedacito de sueño?... Un día noches después, te diste cuenta de que no era que no soñaras sino que muy dentro de ti, preferías que a tus pesadillas se las comiera el olvido. Pero al olvido se le olvida todo, y entonces te diste cuenta que la noche daba vida a las criaturas mágicas que no te dejaban dormir.

Hoy, pasados los años vuelvo a recordar esas noches, esos sueños que no tenían memoria. Había un mundo fantástico y a la vez tenebroso que me envolvía de noche y me acorralaba en mi cama.
Recuerdo esas figuras de animales fantásticos que se dedicaban a asustar. Alebrijes se llaman y se esconden en colores divertidos para después ser tu perdición. Ahora forman parte de mi historia y me tienen fascinada. A veces cierro los ojos y los sigo viendo entre sueños, pero a diferencia de antes, ahora no les tengo mas miedo... me vuelve feliz solo de verlos.
